Late summer, 1390

It's been a tense few days.

Margaret, for all her patience, made it clear that Kate was not going to be negotiating with the Douglas again, and Kate can't say that she objects. She just wishes there were something, anything she could do to help. As it is, she spends a great deal of time pacing, riding, reading -- or at least staring at books. Rereading Harry's letter.

The sun is on the way down towards the horizon, the shadows lengthening, as she makes another round of the castle's courtyard.

Late summer, 1390

Kate is holding herself together very tightly as she leaves the Douglas' war tent. Oh, she knows well enough when she is being condescended to -- that brash, smirking, weather-bitten, brawling usurer--

The men-at-arms escorting her give warning glares to the Scottish soldiers, but it's hardly necessary. They might grin at her fury, but none seem inclined to have it directed at them.

Anger is much preferable to the dread threatening to creep into her heart, at least. She'll certainly not let anyone think the Douglas frightened her. She clings to that resolve as they ride back to the castle, where Margaret waits.

with this ring, I thee wed

Man and wife.

They are at last man and wife, he hers and she his -- the Lord and Lady Percy.

It has been quite a day.

When the festivities are finally done, they have burned a great many candles, eaten a great deal of food, danced many a dance. Elizabeth is the one who finally takes Harry's hand, covering a yawn, and tugs him towards the door of the hall. The remaining guests raise a cheer and a cup as the couple head upstairs to their rooms.

Kate leans on Harry as they ascend the stairs, loose-limbed and smiling from exhaustion.

(no subject)

It has been several days since Harry Percy came riding up to Hereford and turned Elizabeth's life into a storm of confused emotions -- and only a day or two since he actually proposed marriage, and she accepted, just to confuse everything even further. And that has set off a whole new storm of preparations in an astonishingly short time. The wedding won't actually take place for some months, but from her parents' urgency, you would think it was happening tomorrow.

Harry is not, of course, allowed anywhere near her quarters, as is proper, and they both take the walk from the great hall to the staircase as their last chance to talk alone for the day. (Not terrifically alone, of course; still chaperoned, even more than when they were properly courting, to both of their annoyance.) At the parting of ways, Harry kissed her hand and bade her good night, repairing some (only some) of the damage he'd wrought at dinner by unwittingly comparing one of the Mortimers' allies, by means of an unfortunate extended metaphor, to a badger.

"I'll wish thee good morrow soon enough, Kate," he murmured, and she nudged him away, as hard as she could in the sight of her mother's lady.

When the bar appears through her bedroom door, she barely hesitates before slipping through and shutting the door behind her. Someone opens it immediately and she steps out of the way--

And stares at Harry Percy.

"My lord?"

"--My lady!" he says, recovering quickly, as he starts to laugh.

[COLLEGE AU HOORAY] Late '90s, University

So two nights ago, Harry and Kate got into another screaming fight on the quad that ended with Harry flinging his key to Kate's apartment at her feet and Kate threatening to use it to key his door, since he's too much of a loser to own a car, and both of them stalking off to separate bars to drink whiskey and tell their friends that it's really over this time.

REALLY.

Kate has sulked through the last two days, slamming doors and breaking pencil points and trying to remember what, exactly, they were fighting about. But it doesn't matter because she is not going to keep dating crazy. She is going to focus on her reading and go to bed at a reasonable hour and not give Harry Percy another thought.

[werewolf AU] homeward bound

The coronation is done -- and quite an event that was -- and true to his word, the new king Henry, the fifth of that name, provided all that the Percys needed for their journey north. In truth, they needed little; they came from Warkworth with hardly anything in tow, and return the same way.

But they do carry with them the security of the King's pardon, intangible (and if Kate is honest with herself, still somewhat dubious. Henry is sincere in wishing them to be allies, she is certain, but his subjects may not forgive so easily).

It's a few days ride to Warkworth. Kate has spent much of it in thoughtful silence. As they ride up to the castle gate, though, she lets out an audible sigh of relief.

[werewolf AU] A long night

King Henry is ill, most likely dying, and the kingdom has known so for some time. For now, at least, the English are thinking more about succession than about rebellions, past or future.

The palace in London is still and quiet tonight. The air is heavy with tension, thick with the smell of worry.

The Battle of Shrewsbury [Werewolf AU]

The day of the battle dawns cloudy and cold. The men on both sides form up as the sun rises behind the clouds, facing each other across a field of gray snow in orderly ranks.

When battle is joined, most semblance of that order disintegrates. The leaders of each army range here and there about the field, directing their troops, and soon the snow is churned and brown with mud and blood.

Most of the soldiers are too busy fighting for their lives to notice the gray wolf creeping around the edges of the battlefield, crouched low to the ground, her hackles raised and lips pulled back in a snarl. Kate has never seen a battle. It's not exactly what she was expecting.

[Werewolf AU. WE DO WHAT WE WANT.]

Kate Percy is having a bad day.

Tonight's the night of the full moon, and usually she spends the day in her room before slipping out to the heath at moonrise. Usually. But today, the Percys are playing host to a neighboring baron, and Kate has had to spend the day seeing to the guests. The baroness has called for every luxury possible since she arrived, and the baron smells of disdain whenever he speaks to Kate, and Kate is ravenous.

If she can make it a few more hours -- just long enough to make sure the cook has dinner well in hand -- she'll be able to shrug it all off and go out in the moonlight.

Hopefully she won't lose her head and bite the baron, in the meantime.
