[COLLEGE AU HOORAY] Late '90s, University
So two nights ago, Harry and Kate got into another screaming fight on the quad that ended with Harry flinging his key to Kate's apartment at her feet and Kate threatening to use it to key his door, since he's too much of a loser to own a car, and both of them stalking off to separate bars to drink whiskey and tell their friends that it's really over this time.
REALLY.
Kate has sulked through the last two days, slamming doors and breaking pencil points and trying to remember what, exactly, they were fighting about. But it doesn't matter because she is not going to keep dating crazy. She is going to focus on her reading and go to bed at a reasonable hour and not give Harry Percy another thought.

"Kate, come on, we both know we're over whatever happened back there."

(His panicked look is adorable.
STOP IT, SELF.)

He knits his brow.
"For my part, I'm sorry, but it wasn't all me, was it, but like I said, we're past that now! It's not that big a deal."

She breaks off, burying her face in her hand.
"How many bloody fights have we had in the last six months, Harry?"
no subject
"I don't know. I sort of forget about them after we've made up."
Doesn't she?

He tries to gesticulate; that turns out to still be a really bad idea.

He shakes his head. "No, don't answer that, because none of this would have been necessary if you'd damned well answered my bloody calls."

"Go home, Harry."

"Hang on a minute--"

She really means it.
Harry swallows. "Kate..."
Shit. What does he say? What can tell her?
He searches her face. "I don't want this."
no subject
"Well I'm sorry," briskly, "but I don't want to keep dragging myself through all this every time we fight. I thought I made that clear."

No, shit shit shit shit, this isn't coming out right, this isn't coming out at all.
"I don't want that either," he says, and shit, it sounds stupid and pathetic, and not at all like himself, shit, what is he even doing here?

He's not retorting with his usual heat, though; he actually sounds wounded, a little.
"Though I guess we have your answer on that too."
no subject
"Fine, then!"
She spins and heads for the building.
no subject
"You're know I'm right, Kate!"
