The coronation is done -- and quite an event that was -- and true to his word, the new king Henry, the fifth of that name, provided all that the Percys needed for their journey north. In truth, they needed little; they came from Warkworth with hardly anything in tow, and return the same way.

But they do carry with them the security of the King's pardon, intangible (and if Kate is honest with herself, still somewhat dubious. Henry is sincere in wishing them to be allies, she is certain, but his subjects may not forgive so easily).

It's a few days ride to Warkworth. Kate has spent much of it in thoughtful silence. As they ride up to the castle gate, though, she lets out an audible sigh of relief.

His arms curl about her waist, and pull her close.

"I am satisfied."

"We'll speak of this again." Another warm, hazy kiss. "We've more to settle and reestablish here."

"What's that?" she asks. "What more?"

"Plenty more." He hooks a leg between hers. "Years more. This is your doing, remember."

". . . I remember," she says, soft and suddenly smiling again.

"I'll take those years, and gladly."

Years. They'll have years.

"Very well, as thou shalt have them."

He settles his chin on her shoulder, and just -- stays, planting a few kisses as he will.

Kate lets her eyes close, lets herself drift in the afterglow.

Don't worry, Harry, she hasn't forgotten about your erection -- it'd be difficult to, after all -- but she wants just this, for a moment, this warmth and this peace.
